The Care Workers’ Charity are excited to announce a new partnership with the World Seniors Snooker and their World Seniors Championship which is taking place at the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield this May live on the BBC.
Snooker Legends such as Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ White, King of the Crucible Stephen Hendry, Ireland’s Ken Doherty and 1986 World Professional Champion Joe Johnson will battle it out with 12 other players over five days of top-class snooker action.
This new partnership will see The Care Workers’ Charity adopted as the Official Charity of World Seniors Snooker not only during the Championship event in May, but throughout the tour.
The World Seniors Snooker Tour gives opportunities for legends and players to meet and compete in a sport that is enjoyed by multiple generations and has been associated with improving older people’s wellbeing.
The Care Workers’ Charity (CWC) supports care workers in the UK by providing financial and mental health support, signposting to resources, and advocating on their behalf for improved pay and conditions. Their grants help care workers to overcome crisis and continue to work in the sector to support those who draw on social care services. Care workers are among the lowest paid workers in the UK and yet they play such a vital role in our society. The CWC aims to raise awareness of social care by providing insight into the issues affecting care workers in the UK, and to promote parity of esteem with their counterparts in the NHS.
Working together with supporters and partners, The Care Workers’ Charity will be using the World Seniors Snooker Championship as a platform to invite both care workers and people who draw on care to the event. Their “50 for FIFTY” initiative allows companies or individuals to give those care workers a day out at the Snooker to meet each other, network and share experiences as well as seeing their favourite snooker legends… Plus 50% of the ticket cost gets donated back to the charity itself. Those adopting and supporting “50 for FIFTY” will also get a day out at the Snooker themselves to see some of the great work the CWC is doing in person and meet the care workers their donation supports.
Karolina Gerlich, Chief Executive Officer of The Care Workers’ Charity said:
“We are beyond delighted to be asked to partner and support the World Seniors Snooker Tour, personally snooker is a great passion of mine but beyond that I am grateful to be able to offer care workers and their clients an opportunity to experience a rare treat at the Crucible Theatre, to enjoy good company and watch some superstars demonstrate their magic”
Jason Francis, Chairman of World Seniors Snooker said:
“We are delighted to announce the Care Workers Charity as our official partner for this year. As a
sport which focuses on ‘Seniors Sport’ we enjoy a huge amount of support from the aging
population, many of whom remember our Snooker Legends from the 70’s and 80’s. Working with CWC means we can give their Care Workers and clients a chance to actually come to the Crucible in May to not only see some snooker on the table but also meet and network off it. It’s an area myself and fellow Director Rohit Sagoo feel very passionately about and its brilliant to be able to announce this today”
