Brunelcare launches new service

by Lisa Carr

Brunelcare is excited to announce it has launched a new service at its Little Heath Reablement and Support site in South Gloucestershire.

Little Heath is Brunelcare’s newest site, opening in April 2020 and launching during the Covid pandemic. The 24-bed site has provided vital care and support to help people to return home more quickly after they leave hospital. Over the last three years, the reablement team at Little Heath have supported more than 700 people, receiving amazing feedback from them and their loved ones.

With the current contract for reablement services coming to an end, the centre has now been repurposed to focus on providing nursing and care for people who are not living with a dementia. This is in recognition of the fact that there are a number of people who want some level of nursing support, but for whom a dementia-specialist home isn’t the right setting.

Brunelcare is also entering into a new partnership with South Gloucestershire Council, to provide 4 beds to allow admissions from the community into our Little Heath site. These ‘step up’ beds will allow people to access short term support for up to 8 weeks, before returning to live independently in their own home.

Oona Goldsworthy, Brunelcare Chief Executive, said: “We know we have something really special in our team and facilities at Little Heath, and that’s why we’ve chosen to repurpose the service.

“This will be a new type of service for Brunelcare, and we believe it’s an exciting opportunity to offer support to even more members of our community.

Lewis Farrell, Little Heath Reablement Manager, said:“I would like to thank my team and the staff who have made such a huge difference to the lives of people we have supported at Little Heath.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter at Little Heath and welcome guests who can now make this their permanent home.”

Little Heath is a purpose-built development based in Cadbury Heath in South Gloucestershire, and provides 24-hour nursing and support. All 24 rooms have ensuite shower rooms and each floor has a communal lounge, dining room and kitchenette.

The modern facilities are designed to encourage independence, and services include education to help residents manage health conditions.

There is a dedicated GP service based at Little Heath with consultation rooms at the centre. Little Heath Reablement is rated ‘Good’ in all domains by the Care Quality Commission.
