Leading health and social care provider, Cygnet, is pleased to announce Ian Brokenshire has been appointed as Non Executive Director on its Advisory Board. Ian has recently retired from a long and distinguished career at KPMG, spanning 35 years, and will join Cygnet in January 2024.

Ian was Senior Partner of KPMG across the South West Region where he advised growing businesses across a wide range of sectors, bringing constructive challenge, insights, commercial acumen and pragmatic advice.

He was on the KPMG UK Healthcare Leadership team and has been successfully working with and advising many of the UK’s most significant healthcare organisations, including behavioural health, elderly care, nursing agencies, pharma and medical appliances.

Ian was an auditor for 25 years and he was Audit Partner for the Cygnet Group for 10 years up until 2015. His background means he brings a wealth of insight and understanding about Cygnet’s work and structure, as well as the relevant attributes and skills to provide independent oversight. Ian will Chair Cygnet’s Audit and Risk Committee.

During his tenure at KPMG he was also the national lead for their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) independent sector team across the UK. With a key strand of Cygnet’s strategy focusing on ESG credentials, Ian’s experience will be invaluable in supporting Cygnet to promote a realistic and appropriate ESG agenda for a sustainable and responsible future.

Ian joins fellow Non Executive Directors Dame Clare Gerada DBE, Mark Stephens CBE and Sian Jarvis CB on Cygnet’s Advisory Board, which is Chaired by Senior Independent Director, Professor the Lord Patel of Bradford OBE.

Lord Patel said: “Ian’s appointment further strengthens an already impressive Advisory Board for the Cygnet Group.  I am delighted he has chosen to join us as we look at how Cygnet can best support the NHS and local authorities around the UK to meet the growing demand for mental health and social care support.”

Dr Tony Romero, Cygnet Group CEO said: “Ian’s expertise will undoubtedly help to inform our ambitious plans for the future whilst giving rigorous oversight to ensure we continue to meet the growing expectations of our commissioners, regulators and, most importantly, those in our care.

“Amongst our priorities, we remain laser-focused on quality care and service excellence. We must also keep pace with emerging models of care and technology to ensure continuous innovation. I am very much looking forward to working with Ian in the next chapter of Cygnet’s journey.”

Ian added: “In any Non-Executive role it is the team of people in the organisation that I look for first. Cygnet has such an amazingly talented staff group who show such professionalism every day, which I have seen first-hand over the past decade.

“Cygnet provides high-quality care to service users and has a positive impact on people’s lives every day, I feel proud and honoured to be able to help Cygnet grow and succeed.  I am very much looking forward to visiting as many different services and colleagues as possible around the UK.”
