Exemplar Health Care, a leading provider of nursing care for adults with complex needs, is celebrating achieving a major growth milestone as the organisation opens its 50th care home. Construction for Hillside Court, a £7.7 million care home in Leeds, began in August 2022 with the home officially opening to new residents on 22nd January 2024.
Since purchasing its first care home in Sheffield in 2001 and going on to building its first care home in 2003 – the CQC ‘Outstanding’ rated Greenside Court – Exemplar Health Care has expanded across the North and Midlands to address the unmet need for community based, nurse-led complex care services.
It’s 50th home – Hillside Court, located on St Anthony’s Road, Leeds – features 41 bedrooms with ensuite wet rooms, split across four communities. With this small group living model, Exemplar Health Care has found it can provide a far more supportive environment that is more responsive to people’s needs. Each community has a dining room, lounge, quiet lounge, and a sensory bathroom. In addition, there is an activities hub, therapy room, visitor’s suite, and a large accessible garden.
The home has created 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area and features a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. The home has already recruited a mix of care, nursing, and therapeutic professionals, including Healthcare Assistants, Registered Nurses, a Physiotherapist and an Occupational Therapist.
Through this multi-disciplinary team, people living at Hillside Court can access the full range of clinical and holistic care they need. The new staff team prides itself on empowering residents to maximise their independence in a way that works for them based on their healthcare needs, whilst providing the support they need to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
For those looking to advance their careers or take up a new challenge, several roles are still being recruited for, including a Head Housekeeper and several Care Assistants. Having opened ten homes over the last year, Exemplar Health Care now employees more than 4,500 people and supports more than 1,000 individuals at their homes. Earlier this year, the provider confirmed these openings formed part of an ambitious growth plan to bring much needed complex nursing care services to more locations across England.
Through two decades of commitment to excellence, Exemplar Health Care has solidified itself as a trusted and valued partner to the people they support, their loved ones, and to Commissioners, with this latest milestone underlining the benefits of their unique model.
Steve Melton, CEO of Exemplar Health Care, said:
“I am grateful that communities across England have welcomed us with open arms as we’ve worked to bring high-quality, homely, complex needs care services to areas that desperately need this type of service.
“I also am humbled that so many individuals have entrusted us to provide their care and support, their home, or to support them in their careers. For the individuals we support, and the people in our team, everything we do is fully focused on making every day better.”
“We are pushing forward with our exciting expansion plans so we can support more people in more communities; continuing to evolve our therapeutic and clinical offers, so that individuals in our homes benefit from consistent and comprehensive expert support; and we are leading the way in empowering the people we support to have a greater say in how our homes and organisation works for them.
“We are excited for the future and the opportunity to positively transform more lives.”
Laura Clegg, Home Manager at Hillside Court said:
“I am thrilled to lead the opening of Exemplar Health Care’s 50th home and to be entrusted to continue building on Exemplar Health Care’s reputation for excellence. Our dedicated team is deeply committed to creating an environment that radiates warmth, inclusivity, and that focuses on making every day better for the people we support.”
Selina Wall, Managing Director of Commissioning, said:
“This state-of-the-art home reflects our commitment to providing exemplary nursing care for adults with complex needs. I know Laura and her team will have a profound and lasting positive impact on the lives of people we will support here, enabling individuals in the community that need complex care to live and be cared for closer to their friends and loved ones, and without needing to be in an institutional hospital setting.”
