Residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Devonshire Court, in Leicester, are enjoying a new open space at their care home in Oadby.
“Our balcony area is our newest addition in creating open spaces that can be appreciated by all our residents, especially to socialise and enjoy nature in the warmer months,” says Home Manager Juliet McNeilly.
The new area, called the Fred Lifford Balcony, was officially opened by Freemason Steven Varley, alongside Peter Kinder from the Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons.
To mark the event, staff at the Home, which supports older people with residential care and residential dementia support, created a day of activities for everyone to enjoy. This included a dementia bus experience, where guests had the opportunity to use equipment that helped them understand what it might feel like to live with dementia, and tours of the Kindness Suite, a newly refurbished area with personalised bedrooms, light installations and cosy lounges.
“We see our Home as the next stage in someone’s life,” says Home Manager Juliet McNeilly. “For people to come here and live to the full to the very end of life.”
Resident Shirley Hughes says: “The new balcony is really spacious and has good views looking out to the front of the Home and local area. I’m looking forward to spending more time outdoors once the weather gets warmer.”
Devonshire Court is currently rated ‘Outstanding’ by care regulator the Care Quality Commission.
