United Response, the national disability charity, has appointed Andrew Marsden MStJ as their new president

“With more than a million people in the UK with learning disabilities and almost a quarter of the UK’s population having some form of mental health condition or physical disability there is a real need to support people with education, in seeking employment and in living independent lives. I’m delighted to be joining the remarkable team at United Response to help drive forward their aim of ensuring everyone can live their best life and enjoy a fulfilling future.”

“I’ve had the privilege to meet both colleagues and some of the people United Response support, and hear first-hand of the truly extraordinary things being achieved, and I’m looking forward to supporting the charity at this crucial time for the social care sector, so it can continue to be a leading voice for long-term societal change.”

With over 30 years of board experience, including at Vileda, HP Foods, Danone, and Britvic – where he played a key role in launching it on the stock market – Andrew is now an international strategy consultant and portfolio non-executive director and Chair. He was elected as Sheriff of The City of London in 2022/3.

Andrew is deeply committed to helping others. He has been a Trustee for several national charities including Marie Curie, and ‘Change, Grow, Live’ the leading drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity. He co-founded the annual City of London Sheriff’s Challenge to inspire school children to speak in public, and has been involved with the Lord Mayor of London’s Appeal Board, the Big Curry Charity Lunch, and was President The Sheriff’s and Recorder’s Fund which helps with prisoner rehabilitation, amongst others.

Chair of the board of Trustees at United Response, Malcom McCaig, said; “Andrew brings a wealth of experience of the charity sector, and a commitment to give back to others. His vision and knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to develop and help the people we support live fulfilled lives.”
