Hampshire Care Association Welcomes New Leadership as Chair Steps Down After Distinguished Term

by Kirsty Kirsty

Hampshire Care Association (HCA), the leading voice for independent care providers across Hampshire, Southampton, and Portsmouth, is pleased to announce the appointment of two highly respected professionals to its Executive Board.

Michael Crutchley, Chief Executive of Brendoncare, has been named the new Chair of HCA, and Dr. Selina Chandran, Clinical Director of Kindred Care, will join as a new Executive Committee Member. Both appointments take effect in July 2025.

This leadership transition follows the stepping down of Clare Norris, who has served as HCA’s Chair with great distinction for three years. Clare has been instrumental in strengthening the Association’s strategic partnerships and influence during a period of unprecedented challenge and change in the care sector. Clare will continue to support the Executive Team in the role of Treasurer.

“We are immensely grateful to Clare for her outstanding leadership, deep commitment, and hard work as Chair,” said Emma Heath, Chief Executive of HCA. “We’re delighted she will remain on the Executive Team, continuing to guide our work in a new capacity as Treasurer.”

Clare will be joined on the Executive Committee by current members Maria Parsley, HCA Secretary, and Lesley Packham, HCA Vice Chair, who continue to bring valuable leadership and experience to the team. Andrea Pattison, a longstanding and highly valued member of the Executive Committee, stepped down from the Board this month.

As HCA’s incoming Chair, Michael Crutchley brings extensive leadership experience from across the NHS, charity, and independent care sectors. A registered Mental Health Nurse by background, Michael has led services in residential, extra care, domiciliary care, and complex needs. His values-led approach and deep understanding of person-centred care will be key as HCA looks to further support its members, influence policy, and champion excellence across adult social care.

“It’s a privilege to be joining HCA as Chair at such a pivotal moment for the care sector,” said Michael Crutchley. “Care providers are under intense pressure, but the innovation, dedication, and resilience across this community inspires real optimism. I look forward to working with the Board and members to drive forward positive change and ensure that quality and sustainable care remains at the centre of decision making in the Hampshire social care system.”

Joining alongside Michael is Dr. Selina Chandran, Clinical Director of Kindred Care. Selina brings a unique combination of clinical, academic, and strategic expertise, having worked across public health, integrated care systems, and NHS specialised commissioning. She is particularly experienced in dementia services and adult social care transformation.

“I’m excited to be joining HCA at a time of transformation,” said Selina Chandran. “Supporting providers to deliver safe, person-centred, and equitable care is more important than ever. I look forward to contributing to the Association’s mission and working alongside colleagues to drive progress across the region.”

Emma Heath added: “These appointments mark an important moment for Hampshire Care Association. Michael and Selina bring deep experience, credibility, and a passion for person-centred, high-quality care. Their leadership will help shape our future direction and strengthen our ability to advocate for providers and those they support.”

The appointments will be formally announced at HCA’s next conference.
