  • Podcast covers broad range of current issues such as diversity and inclusion

Leading Retirement Living and Extra Care provider, Housing 21, has launched a podcast with residents leading discussions on key topics.

The podcast, called ‘21 Talks’, arrives at a time when the audio medium is experiencing consistent growth year on year – according to Statista, 61% of people listened to podcasts in 2021.

With the first couple of episodes of ‘21 Talks’ shining a light on issues such as sustainability and careers in care, the latest episode delves into the subject of respect and inclusion among residents, with a special focus on the challenges faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community.

By inviting residents to take part in these conversations, Housing 21 is aiming to shift perceptions around older people and how they are represented by providing them with a platform where their voices can be heard and their opinions discussed.

Debz, who appears on the latest episode of the podcast, said:

Being asked to join the podcast feels like our opinion matters. To have had the opportunity to share both my real life experiences and my own insights on important conversations that are currently being had has been rewarding on so many levels.”

John Simmonds, respect and inclusion lead at Housing 21, said:

Housing 21 is always looking for ways to hear our residents’ voices.

“Not only was it important for them to feel represented, but their insights can also be instrumental in effecting change and launching new initiatives based on real feedback.”
