Care home residents to experience the magic of Paris through interactive light technology games like virtual swimming and archery
Social-Ability, the leading healthcare technology service provider sparking joy and laughter in care homes through interactive light technology, has launched a series of new sporting games to celebrate Paris 24 and bring the buzz of sporting success to residents living in care homes across the country.
With almost half a million people living in care homes in the UK, Social-Ability’s interactive light projector called the Happiness Programme, which is used in over 1,000 partner homes, is launching new Olympic-style activities to encourage residents to participate in their own games. From archery, swimming and cycling to Olympic-themed quizzes, the Happiness Programme light projector aims to transport residents to the home of the 2024 Olympics. The games will launch by July 23rd, just in time for the opening ceremony in Paris.
With over one billion people across the world expected to tune into Paris 24, Social-Ability is ensuring that people in care homes do not miss out on the action. This initiative aims to enhance the social, physical, and cognitive wellbeing of care home residents by promoting active participation and engagement, using the spirit of the Olympics.
The Happiness Programme has already made significant strides in dementia care, according to a recent survey, 98% of care services observed improvements in residents’ social and physical wellbeing, while 89% saw enhancements in cognitive wellbeing. Additionally, the programme contributed to fewer falls in one in six care services and improvements in nutrition and hydration in one in five services, attributable to increased activity levels.
John Ramsay, founder of Social-Ability said: “We are thrilled to bring the spirit of Paris to care home residents up and down the country. Residents are too often left with nothing but the TV or radio to keep them entertained and end up missing out on the buzz of international events like the Olympics. The new games available through our Happiness Programme aim to bring the spirit of the Games right to their door whilst also improving overall wellbeing and quality of life. Just because someone is living in a care home does not mean they should miss out on the excitement around the Olympics and I’m so proud that Social-Ability is the organisation to change that.”
