- Since March last year, Care UK has been rolling out n-kind cleaning products, developed by Blueleaf Care, across its 163 homes.
- Jon Bicknell, Food and Hotel Services Director at Care UK, said: “Care UK is dedicated to making meaningful changes when it comes to sustainability. In addition to working towards carbon neutrality by 2040, we know that there are smaller changes we can make to make a difference and ensure we are acting as responsible corporate citizens. By partnering with Blueleaf Care and introducing n-kind, we’re not only improving our environmental impact – we’re setting a new benchmark for what sustainable housekeeping in care looks like.”
Using two transformative concentrate solutions from n-kind, elimin8 and clean15, housekeeping teams across its homes have committed to supporting the environment by using the products, which are created using 100% biodegradable and plant-based ingredients.
elimin8 is an 8-in-1 anti-viral and anti-bacterial disinfectant, which offers exceptional infection control with an industry-leading 30 second contact time. clean15 is a versatile 15-in-1 cleaner and deodoriser, effective on a variety of surfaces, from bathrooms to soft furnishings. Both products are supplied in packaging made from recycled plastics, contributing to the further reduction of Care UK’s carbon footprint.
Ellen Brown, Sales and Marketing Director at Blueleaf Care, said:“n-kind is redefining what’s possible. We don’t see sustainability as a checklist item – it’s an opportunity to rethink how we work, to care for people, places, and the planet better than ever before. It isn’t just about delivering products; it’s about delivering a new standard for how care environments can work smarter, safer, and more sustainably.”
Housekeeping is a priority within Care UK homes. This crucial job supports infection prevention and control, as well as ensuring that homes are well-maintained, clean and welcoming for residents, their loved ones and other visitors. In 2024, the housekeeping team at Britten Court in Lowestoft were nationally recognised as Care Home Team of the Year at the Hotel Housekeeping Honours Awards.
Care UK is dedicated to being a responsible corporate citizen. In 2024, the provider secured official accreditation for the high standards they used to measure corporate greenhouse gas emissions. This an important milestone on its journey to reducing carbon emissions and achieving net zero by 2040. Care UK continues to work toward having at least one Sustainability Champion in each of its 160+ homes and delivered projects such as the Wildlife Gardens campaign to attract pollinators and birds to their outside spaces.
More than 99% of Care UK’s general waste was diverted from landfill last year, alongside the reduction of unnecessary pharmaceutical waste. Care UK also made a £1 million investment in LED lighting across its estate and has introduced a salary sacrifice electric vehicle scheme for field-based roles to complement the cycle to work scheme for colleagues working across its homes and offices.
This year, the provider also launched the Generations of Change scheme, to support intergenerational learning about the environment, the importance of recycling, and more. A number of unique lesson packs for teachers are available on their website.
