Valorum Care Group launches staff training and development Academy to attract more care and nursing staff and provide career progression and development
Leading care and support provider Valorum Care Group (VCG) is launching a new learning and development Academy for our people in a bold move to highlight the benefits of working in the sector and address industry wide recruitment and retention issues.
Valorum Care Group operates 75 schemes across local authority areas in England and Wales and employs 1,400 colleagues in the services including supported living, residential care and residential care with nursing.
Now in a bid to lead the way in social care recruitment and retention, the Group has launched a career pathway campaign to highlight the benefits of working in the sector. The VCG Academy aims to improve skills, training, learning and development among its workforce and retain the valued people who work for the group and offer opportunities for career progression and development.
Chloé Foster, People Director at Valorum Care Group, said: “We are passionate about supporting our colleagues to learn and develop, to become experts and grow in their careers. The Valorum Academy will bring all Valorum Care Group’s learning and development opportunities for its employees under one roof.”
Frontline care colleagues will be given opportunities to progress their careers through the Academy and move into roles with more responsibility.
Meanwhile those with managerial aspirations will be able to develop and enhance their skills and leadership to take up senior roles and lead how the Group operates.
Chloé Foster explained: “With job stability, security and financial rewards, there is no better time to consider working in the care sector. “As a care provider we want people to have high expectations of a career in social care. As such, the Academy will have a defined focus on both frontline and leadership roles and will give people a clear career pathway to realise their ambitions.”
A clearly defined career “ladder” allows people to move up from support worker roles to team leader, deputy / clinical roles, to registered manager and beyond.
For those looking to move into clinical roles, the Care Home Assistant Practitioner ladder involves the supervision of a Registered Nurse and will enable them to “bridge the gap” between the role of care assistant and nurse.
Chloé Foster added: “The Academy will ensure our people have the confidence, skills, and behaviours to be their very best in their roles. This will be achieved through a combination of practical training which will be tailored to each specific role, service and the person-centred care focus of care certificates.
A Future Leaders programme will also aim to identify and develop colleagues with the potential to progress into senior leadership roles within the business. And a formal mentoring programme, led by Valorum’s Executive Leadership Team, will work with future leaders to support them in their career development.
The aim is to drive excellence in each of the business’s care delivery settings by appointing organisational leads. These leads will work with Valorum Care Group’s Executive Leadership Team to drive forward positive change and group-wide adoption of best practice.
Valorum Care Group CEO Rhian Stone said: “there is no greater asset than our people. High quality training and development is critical to our business to create quality services and a great place to work. The new Academy will drive excellence and drive forward positive change, adoption of best practice and empower our people to take on more senior roles. For potential employees thinking about taking up a caring profession, we want them to recognise Valorum Care Group as a standout organisation to work for. We truly value all the hard work and selfless dedication that we have seen, and our commitment is having a stable and happy team
“The Valorum Academy is a fantastic resource, for all our people, whatever their role. It will support our frontline teams who provide brilliant care to the people we provide csre and support to and at the senior leadership level it will also help us get our vital succession planning right. I’m really excited about its potential to deliver great things in the years ahead for Valorum Care Group.”
