Athena Care Homes, an East Anglian care home provider, has completed the purchase of its sixth and seventh care homes, welcoming Alex Wood House and Langdon House care homes in Cambridge to the group.

The transfer from CHS Group, which was completed on 18 September, enables Athena Care Homes to continue to develop its strong regional presence and brings the two homes to a specialist care home operator.

Mala Agarwal, Managing Director at Athena Care Homes said, “We’re delighted to welcome the residents and team, at both Alex Wood House and Langdon House, to the Athena Care Home family. We’re excited to be able to bring our passion for exceptional care to the Cambridge community and to build on the great work of CHS Group.”

Stephen Hills, Chief Executive of CHS Group, said: “The decision to sell Alex Wood House and Langdon House has been extremely difficult but will allow CHS Group to focus its efforts on its core offering of social housing and services for people in need in our community. Athena Care Homes is a family-owned care provider in East Anglia which operates with similar values to our own and we are confident that they will be able to continue providing the excellent level of care currently available at both homes.”

Langdon House in Chesterton is an established, purpose-built 24-hour residential care home that can accommodate 51 residents who are frail, elderly and may have a diagnosis of or are living with dementia. It is rated Outstanding in Caring by Care Quality Commission (CQC). Similarly, Alex Wood House in Arbury can accommodate 36 older people over the age of 65 with higher needs and advanced dementia.

Athena Care Homes is also retaining all existing team members at Alex Wood House and Langdon House will be retained under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 (TUPE) arrangements.
