As the UK care sector continues to rely on a diverse and international workforce, the challenges faced by international recruits have come into sharper focus. With over 70,000 care workers recruited internationally between 2022 and 2023, it is crucial to address the unique issues this group encounters. During Professional Care Workers Week 2024, a dedicated session will explore these challenges and identify ways in which employers, the wider care sector, and policymakers can provide more effective support.
International recruits bring invaluable skills and perspectives to the care sector, yet they can face significant obstacles navigating complex immigration processes whilst managing the emotional strain of being away from home. This session aims to shine a light on these issues, fostering a better understanding among all stakeholders and encouraging actionable solutions. Join us for ‘Issues facing international recruits’ on Wednesday 18th September 1.30-2.30pm.
Key Topics to be Discussed:
· Support from Employers: How care sector employers can create more inclusive and supportive workplaces that help international recruits thrive.
· Policy Considerations: The role of policymakers in ensuring fair and equitable treatment for international recruits, including streamlined immigration processes and enhanced support services.
· Sector-Wide Initiatives: Strategies for the wider care sector to collaborate and share best practices in supporting international workers.
· Personal Stories: First-hand insights from international care workers on their experiences and what they need to succeed in their roles.
