National housing and support provider Advance has appointed Ryan Brummitt as its new Executive Director of Support, further strengthening its support services for people with disabilities and mental health conditions as it looks to build on its 50-year legacy.
Ryan joins Advance with extensive experience across the health and social care sector, having held senior leadership roles within both charitable and private organisations delivering complex care across a range of delivery models. His appointment reflects Advance’s continued focus on strengthening quality, governance, and sustainability across its support services.
In his new role, Ryan will be responsible for the strategic leadership of Advance’s support directorate, with a focus on ensuring services are safe, person-centred, and responsive to the increasingly complex needs of the people the organisation supports. He will work closely with operational leaders to strengthen consistency, improve outcomes, and ensure that teams are equipped to deliver high-quality support in a challenging and evolving sector.
Commenting on his appointment, Ryan said: “I am really pleased to be joining Advance at a time when there is both significant challenge and opportunity across social care. What attracted me to Advance is the clear commitment to values, governance, and doing the right thing for the people we support, even when the system is under pressure.
My focus will be on making sure our services remain person-centred in practice, not just in principle. That means ensuring our frontline teams are supported, our systems enable good decision-making, and our leadership is visible and accountable. When those things are in place, people receive better support and teams are able to do their best work.”
Ryan’s appointment strengthens Advance’s executive leadership team and supports the organisation’s ambition to continue developing high-quality, resilient services that respond to the changing needs of individuals, commissioners, and communities.
Ryan added: “The sector is facing increasing complexity, workforce pressures, and funding constraints. Navigating that successfully requires strong foundations, clear oversight, and a willingness to invest in how services are led and supported. I am looking forward to working with colleagues across Advance to build on what is already in place and to ensure our support services remain sustainable, effective, and focused on improving people’s lives.” Julie Layton, Chief Executive of Advance, said: “Ryan joins at an important time for Advance. As we reflect on 50 years of delivering life-enhancing housing and support, we are also looking ahead to how we continue to evolve and improve. Ryan brings deep sector knowledge, strong leadership experience and a clear commitment to our values. He will play a vital role in ensuring our support services continue to deliver positive, meaningful outcomes for the people we support – the heart of why we do what we do.”
