FitzRoy announces the appointment of new Chief Executive

by Kirsty Kirsty

FitzRoy, a leading charity for people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs, has named Angela Murphy as its Chief Executive.

Angela joined FitzRoy as the Director of Operations and Business Development four years ago. Before that she held senior positions within the NHS and local government.

Angela is passionate about transforming the lives of vulnerable people and ensuring they receive the best possible care and support. She comes with more than 25 years’ experience across health and social care and replaces Anna Galliford, who will be retiring from FitzRoy after 20 years’ service.

FitzRoy is a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. For more than 60 years they have been providing a community alternative to institutional care. Today they support hundreds of people to live with independence and choice in their local community, not in institutions.

Martin Kyndt, Chair of Trustees said:

“We are delighted to announce that we have appointed Angela Murphy as our new Chief Executive, following the retirement of Anna Galliford. Having joined FitzRoy in the midst of the Covid as our Director of Operations and Business Development, Angela’s energy, vision and passion have transformed the impact of our work over the past four years. Building on this outstanding achievement, we are confident Angela has the qualities we require to lead FitzRoy in the successful implementation of its ambitious and exciting new strategy and the Board very much looks forward to supporting her in this vital work.”

Angela Murphy, incoming Chief Executive of FitzRoy said:

“As a society, our understanding of learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions has much improved, but the people we support still face many inequalities. We are constantly working with them and their families to overcome the day-to-day barriers they face. I am excited to become FitzRoy’s Chief Executive at such a pivotal time, and looking forward to driving innovation and making the greatest impact for the people we support.”

Angela takes up her role on 1st July 2024
