Abbots Care collaborates on a pilot project with HCPA and Winncare to introduce innovative lifting cushion for safer recovery after falls

This Falls Prevention Awareness Week (23rd – 27th September), home and live-in care provider Abbots Care, is excited to announce their part in a new pilot project with the Hertfordshire Care Providers Association (HCPA) and Winncare to introduce Electronic Lifting Cushions as part of their ongoing efforts to enhance care. The initiative aims to improve the speed and safety of lifting clients after a fall, reducing unnecessary hospital visits and alleviating ambulance service waiting times which continue to be under extreme pressure.

While falls are a common risk for elderly people, the primary concern is to ensure a safe and prompt recovery after a fall occurs. Abbots Care’s use of Winncare’s Electronic Lifting Cushions allows trained Care Workers to quickly and safely lift clients from the floor, reducing the time they spend in distress, and lowering the risk of further injury, including, ‘The Long Lie’ which can lead to further complications such as dehydration, pressure sores, hypothermia and more . This technology also helps reduce the need for emergency services, making recovery faster and more comfortable for clients following a full assessment.

Sarah Hurley, Care Director at Abbots Care has said “we are very excited to be part of a pilot project working with HCPA to provide response when clients have had a slip, trip or fall. Many of our team have now been trained by Winncare to be able to respond, assess and support clients to see if we can use the electronic lifting cushion to help the client up from their fall.

At Abbots Care we are always trying to stay ahead of the curve and support our clients in the best and most effective way possible to improve their quality of life, which is why it is fantastic to be part of such an exciting pilot scheme.”

Falls Prevention Week highlights the need for safe practices and technologies that help people recover from falls quickly and effectively. Abbots Care is proud to take a leading role in ensuring that clients receive the highest level of care, while also protecting the health and safety of its dedicated team of Care Workers.
