NCF’s response to the commencement of the Casey Commission

by Kirsty Kirsty

The National Care Forum (NCF) – the leading association for not-for-profit social care – has responded to the launch of the Casey Commission and the publication of its Terms of Reference today.

NCF CEO, Vic Rayner, commented:
“We welcome the commencement of the independent Casey Commission into adult social care which will explore what is needed for long-term reform and the development of a National Care Service. NCF and its membership stands ready to help Baroness Casey as she undertakes this important piece of work and look forward to collaborating closely with her and the Commission team on the Terms of Reference that will be guiding that work.

“It is fantastic to learn that the Commission has already been meeting with people with lived experience. Only by hearing from those with the biggest stake in a well-functioning and resourced social care system will the Commission be successful in its mission of delivering consistency of care that addresses the ongoing needs of older and disabled people. We will support the Commission to build on this and meet with our members, their workforce and those that they provide care and support for and their families.

“It is absolutely imperative that the Commission moves at pace. It is well understood that there are urgent challenges facing millions of people every day in accessing quality care and support services. We need Baroness Casey to work with everyone across the sector to ensure that much needed reform plans can be seen by the end of 2026.

“The Commission starts against an alarming backdrop of continued financial pressure and strain on our social care system. While the Commission will need to focus on the long-term, it is imperative that the government understands we cannot wait until the Commission’s recommendations are published before taking action. Building a social care system fit for the future can only be achieved by ensuring it is built on solid ground.”
