Sutton Coldfield-based Nexus Care Services will provide social and educational support for young people aged 13-18, following official licensing.

Nexus Children’s Services will provide a range of support services to children and young people in and around Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield and Tamworth. Delivered with the team’s ‘Person-Centred’ approach, the new provision will cover social, Personal assistant support, educational and developmental support – including note-taking, recreation and companionship.

Changing the approach to care

The launch of its children’s service marks another milestone for Nexus, which oversees a number of auxiliary services targeting quality of life for clients.

Summer 2022 saw the launch of Nexus Events, a social programme designed to tackle isolation and “make life fun again”. Its Advocacy Service and Nexus Home Retail support clients in the digital sphere and increase access to financial and medical support, and everyday items that enhance independent living.

Tinga Umera, Managing Director at Nexus Care Services, said: “All our work is person-centred. We understand what our clients and their families need, and we believe in providing tailored care that exceeds expectations.

“As a licenced care provider for children and young people, our dedicated team can now deliver our unique support and champion independence for clients of all ages.”

Caring for the community

By expanding its service provision to children and young people, Nexus takes another step in its journey towards changing the face of the sector – meeting a growing need for bespoke home and community care.

Nexus will use the ‘All About Me’ plan to ensure we have compressive information about all personal care requirements to the children and young adults of 13 to 18 years that we will be providing services for with the aim to make information available to them in providing quality person centred care and involving them in decisions about their care.

The ‘All About Me’ will also be used in engaging and interacting with the Children and young adults whilst prioritising their voice, expressing their wishes, feelings, and day-to-day experiences, and facilitating meaningful engagement. We will also aim to support them in decision making, for example in decisions that affects them, asking them what they think and discuss the choices together.

We are aware children and young people want to understand and be understood and sometimes children and young people find it hard to talk or evaluate service provision at the organisational level if they cannot inform or influence what happens to them at an individual and personal level.

As a result, in order for us to obtain feedback about our services we aim to practice a listening culture, build trust, always being aware that not all young people are the same and see them as individuals with a choice of ways to be heard, ensuring that there is always a two-way conversation between us and them. Giving them feedback as well as showing actions and or explanations to the changes and influence they give us feedback on especially about our services and how it provided to them.

Tinga concluded: “To continue providing the care that our clients need, we’re constantly expanding the services that we can offer. As a private care provider, we’re able to focus on addressing the greatest needs in our community. Children’s services represent a major need for quality care that puts independence and individuality at the forefront.

“We’re all incredibly proud to be able to support young people in their development with the same caring, proactive service that Nexus is built on.”
