A new mental health hospital for women will open in Stoke-on-Trent this summer, allowing more women to receive the support they need closer to home.
Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove, on Boathouse Road, Stoke-on-Trent, will be a 31-bed hospital which will support women to receive emergency mental health support and specialist rehabilitation.
The new service, part of the Cygnet Health Care division, will have two wards; Crocus Ward, for acute admissions and Burleigh Ward, a highly specialised Personality Disorder service. Both wards will aim to treat women in a safe and comfortable environment and support them to safely progress along their recovery journey.

“Stoke-on-Trent has higher rates of mental ill-health than the country average, a gap that has been widening over the last decade. The addition of this new service in the region will support women struggling with their mental health and is part of Cygnet’s ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art services which deliver compassionate, safe, quality care that meets the unique needs of those who need it.”
The opening of the new hospital will bring new jobs to the local area, including clinical, nursing and administrative roles.
Cygnet Health Care already have a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent – Cygnet St Augustine’s – a 32 bed specialist high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) for men on Cobridge Road.

When fully open in the summer this year, Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove will be a fantastic addition to our existing mental health services, and it will make an enormous difference to those who may have otherwise needed to have travelled further distances for their care and treatment.

The new hospital will open in the summer of 2025, with an official date still to be confirmed.
